Your data, plainly.

Who runs this site

Team Racing Online is run by Kiyani Ghattaura, an individual in the United Kingdom, who is the data controller for the personal data described here. For anything about your data, email privacy@teamracing.online.

When you race

Racing needs a free account, described below. There are no advertising or analytics cookies and no tracking of your visits.

Your account

You need an account to race. Accounts you create are for sailors aged 13 or over. We store:

Your sailor name is shown to your friends, to members of your club, and to signed-in sailors who look up your club or your friend code.

Signing in with Google. If you choose it, Google tells us your email address, that it is verified, your Google account ID, your name and a link to your profile picture. We use the first word of your name as your starting sailor name, which you can change, and do not show the picture anywhere. We never receive your Google password.

We use this data to run the account you asked for (performance of a contract) and to keep the service secure and stop abuse (our legitimate interest). We only email you to confirm your address or reset your password; there is no marketing.

Cookies and browser storage

Everything we store in your browser is needed for something you asked for, so there is no consent banner:

IP addresses and security

To limit repeated sign-in attempts, our server holds your IP address in memory for up to about an hour; it is never written to our database. Our hosting providers process IP addresses to deliver the site and keep short-lived technical logs.

Your racing logbook

Your account stores new completed race results: format, opposition from sailor accounts or COM, win or loss, race time and walkovers. When a race's start gun goes, your game also notes that you started it (course, format and opposition), so a race you leave before the finish still counts as sailed in the site's own usage figures; it is not part of your stats. These records are reported by your game; your rating, described next, is kept separately. They are private to you, available to download, and kept until you delete your account. Anonymous replay recordings remain separate and expire after 180 days.

Your rating and the leaderboard

Rated online races give you a rating. We store it with your peak rating, your number of rated races and wins, and the change each rated race made, linked to your account. Race control sends the result of each rated race to the site, with the account of every sailor in it so the ratings can be worked out. The leaderboard shows signed-in sailors every rated sailor's name, club and rating, and your own rating is shown to you in the game. Races against COM also rate that system. Deleting your account removes your rating, your rating history and your place on the leaderboard.

Your replays and reports

Each race you finish is saved to your account as a replay so you can watch it again: the course, the breeze, every steering input in the race (yours, and those of anyone you raced; regatta heats also keep their in-game names), where every boat was, the umpire's calls and the game version. Your newest 25 replays are kept and older ones are deleted as new ones arrive, unless you star them (up to 50). You can rename and delete them, and download them all from the replays page. The site administrator can also watch your saved replays, to look after the game and its rules.

If you are a commodore or vice commodore you can add your own replays to your club's library, where every member of the club can watch them, with your sailor name, until it is removed.

If you report an issue with a race, we keep what you write, the moment and boats you mark, a copy of that race's replay and, where your device has it, the state of the race just before that moment. Reports are read by the site administrator to fix the game, and you can see what became of yours on the replays page.

The regatta archive

Regatta results and every heat's saved replay are kept in a regatta archive: crews, places, boat positions, helm inputs and umpire calls, with each sailor's in-game name. They are shown to signed-in sailors so past events can be watched again. The archive is kept for as long as the service runs, independently of your personal replay collection. Deleting your account replaces your name in archived results and heats with “Sailor” and removes the link to your account. The heats remain because they belong to everyone who sailed them.

Who processes data for us

Some of these providers may process data outside the UK, under the safeguards they offer for international transfers, such as standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep it

Account data is kept until you delete your account. Deleting it from your account page is immediate and removes your profile, friends, invitations, club membership, replays (including any in a club library), reports, rating and rating history. Chat messages you posted in a club stay in that club's chat without your name, and clubs keep only their newest 500 messages. Anonymous race records are deleted after 180 days. Regatta results and heat replays stay in the archive with your name replaced by “Sailor”, as described above.

Your rights

You can see and download your account details, change your sailor name, and delete your account yourself on the account page. You can also ask us for a copy of your data, to correct or delete it, or to restrict or object to how we use it, by emailing privacy@teamracing.online. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
